Tony Blair does not regret for decision war in Iraq

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, in his autobiography published on Sept. 1 said he had no regrets about the decision to participate in military operations against Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq.
The book, entitled “A Journey”, Blair argues that deeply regrets all deaths of British soldiers in Iraq and other coalition members, Iraqi civilians, diplomats, hostages and their families.The former head of the British Cabinet also noted that “did not foresee a nightmare” that followed the start of military operations.

At the same time, according to Blair, the preservation of Saddam Hussein would be a greater security threat than the consequences of his overthrow. He writes that he believes that “the terrible were the consequences would retain power in Iraq of Saddam and his sons would be at least probably much worse.”

Among the reasons for the transformation of military operations in Iraq in a protracted conflict ex-premier said that Western countries had underestimated the role played in Iraq al-Qaida.

Earlier Tony Blair said that all funds received by him for publication his autobiography, he intends to donate to a charitable organization “The Royal British Legion” (Royal British Legion). It deals with the help of seriously injured veterans of the fighting. As noted by the agency, Blair is an advance for his book, he has already received about 7,2 million dollars, despite the fact that royalties from sales of the book sale should bring him additional income.

Britain, along with the U.S., was the main supporter of the invasion of coalition forces in Iraq in 2003. The loss of British troops during the operation were the largest among the countries of the coalition after the United States. According to the website icasualties.org, the loss of British troops during the campaign amounted to 179 killed. USA, in Iraq’s largest contingent in the country lost more than 4400 troops.
