Scientists-against home birth

A respected medical journal has condemned women who gave birth at home. The relevant article published in the editorial journal The Lancet.

The authors cite a study by American scientists, who analyzed the North American and European data almost 350,000 of planned home birth and more than 200,000 of the planned birth in hospital. According to the findings of experts from the U.S., the risk of a child dying in childbirth at home twice higher than that in childbirth in hospital and is 0.2 percent.

Employees of The Lancet recognize the right of women to choose their place of birth. However, in their view, pregnant women have no right to endanger the life of the child. Experts medical publications recommended to women with uncomplicated pregnancies to give birth in a hospital environment, where if necessary they will be able to get qualified professional help.

The representative of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists) Pat O’Brien (Pat O’Brien) said that British women with complicated pregnancies rarely solved to give birth at home. “However, we always support women regardless of their decision,” – he added.
