Self-portrait by Andy Warhol went for 32.5 million dollars

Auctioneers Sotheby’s sold a self-portrait of Andy Warhol for 32,5 million dollars in the course culminated in New York evening auction of contemporary art. Total has sold 53 lots for a total of almost 190 million dollars. Among them are the work of Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and other well-known masters.
Three-sheet in purple tones as the largest of the existing self-portraits Warhol. It was put up for auction U.S. fashion designer Tom Ford. This is not the first work of the artist, sold with significant excess of appraised value. For example, in November 2009 his “200-dollar bills” have been bought for 43.8 million dollars at the maximum Estima only 12.

Two other notable lots of evening trades were paintings by masters of abstract expressionist Mark Rothko (“Untitled”) and Jackson Pollock (“Yellow, gray, black). Work Rothko paintings interspersed with the characteristic “color field” went under the hammer for 31.4 million dollars at an estimated value of 15-25 million dollars. For now Pollock buyer offered more than 8,7 million dollars.

In addition to the large number of abstract-expressionist paintings and sculptures, auctioneers offered to buyers and a few other pop-arts works by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
