Anti-Islam bus ads in New York angered Muslims
On the buses driving on several areas of New York, appeared ads, in which the Muslims offered help in the rejection of their religious beliefs.
The initiator of the action is the famous Manhattan activist and leader of the Stop Islamization of America Pamela Geller she spent, 8000 dollars to buy advertising space on public transport. It is projected that posters will be placed in a total of 30 buses in New York. The ad campaign Geller planed for one month, after which the ads will be removed.
As part of the Geller’s campaign Muslims wishing to give up their faith are invited to visit the RefugefromIslam.com website, where Muslims will be able to get answers to their questions as follows:Leaving Islam? Fatwa on your head? Is your family threatening you?
As Geller said, the campaign is aimed at those Muslims who for some reason decided to leave Islam, but feared the consequences of the Muslim community. The activist stressed that the of advertising posters do not provoke the faithful Muslims to reject Islam, but helps them to overcome the difficulties of such a step.
However, some representatives of the Muslim community in New York has voiced criticism against Geller’s campaign. They think, bus posters are not just discriminatory, but also driven religious hatred among the citizens.
However, after checking the ads the New York’s department of transportation, did not find in it anything that would oppose U.S. laws. Earlier similar posters appeared on 10 buses in Miami.
As Pamela Geller said, she plans to organize such campaigns in other U.S. cities. It is possible that in such way Geller is hoping to attract attention of Americans in the conflict around the construction of a mosque near the site of the terrorist attacks of 9 / 11.
