Lebedev bought The Independent for one pound
Russia businessman Alexander Lebedev has completed its acquisition of the British newspaper The Independent. This was reported on the website edition.
According to the contract between Lebedev and company Independent News & Media PLC, a businessman received all rights to the newspaper The Independent and The Independent on Sunday, as well as on the official website of the publication.
Acquisition cost the employer in a “symbolic” pound sterling. In the next ten months, under the terms of the transaction, the businessman received from the Independent News & Media for more than nine million pounds for the use of the brand, but instead undertakes to assume the debts of the company, the carrier has recently been severely damaged.
In early March 2010 the British media have already reported that sales of The Independent Lebedev was held, but these reports were later refuted.
Earlier Lebedev on similar conditions become another English edition of The Evening Standard (now The London Evening Standard).
Russia billionaire Alexander Lebedev, in particular, is the owner of National Reserve Corporation, the president of the National Investment Council, the president of Media Holding “New Media”, created through the publication of “Novaya Gazeta”.
