Erdogan canceled a visit to Sweden because of the Armenian Genocide Resolution
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan canceled a visit to Sweden in connection with the resolution on the Armenian Genocide, approved by the Swedish Parliament earlier on Thursday, March 11. As the <Reuters, Erdogan was scheduled to visit Sweden on 17 March at the summit between the two states.
In addition, Erdogan issued a statement condemning the resolution approved by the Swedes, who, he says, does not correspond to the friendly relations existing between Ankara and Stockholm. Erdogan also said Turkey’s ambassador to Sweden will be recalled to Ankara for consultations.
Voting on the resolution on the Armenian genocide took place in the Swedish Parliament on Wednesday. As a result, by a margin of one vote, supporters of the document made its adoption. The resolution of the Ottoman Empire against the Armenians in the early 20 th century recognized as genocide.
Earlier in March, a similar document was approved by the Committee on Foreign Affairs U.S. House of Representatives. Then Turkey has also condemned the decision of U.S. congressmen and recalled its ambassador to Washington for consultations.
