Russian Figure Skater Yevgeny Plushenko Came First After The Short Program In Olympic men s figure skating

Russia’s Yevgeny Plushenko took an early lead in the men’s figure skating short program with a score of 90.85 and stayed on top throughout the compeition. Evan Usalysacek, from the U.S., is in second place with a score of 90.30 and Japan’s Daisuke Takahashi is in third place with a score of 90.25. Canada’s top contender, Patrick Chan, scored 81.12 and placed seventh overall. Chan went overtime and received a violation, but he was still excited by the experience.

“It’s just amazing,” Chan told reporters about skating in the Olympics. “It brings me to tears and I get chills all over my body.”

It is still mathematically possible for Chan to earn a medal, sports commentators said.

Canada’s other skater, Vaughn Chipeur, is 24th after the short program, with a score of 57.22.

Four gold medals will be awarded in singles and pairs figure skating events over the course of ten days of competition.

The Canadian figure skating medal contenders are Patrick Chan, Vaughn Chipeur, Cynthia Phaneuf, Joannie Rochette and pairs Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison; Anabelle Langlois and Cody Hay; Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir; and Vanessa Crone and Paul Poirier.

Figure skating and short track speed skating competitions are being held at the Pacific Coliseum, on Vancouver’s East Side. Built in 1968, the Pacific Coliseum has a seating capacity of 14,000, and used to be the home of the Vancouver Canucks hockey team.
