Defense Minister of Ireland, resigned over the issue of a brothel
Irish Defense Minister Willie O’Dea (Willie O’Dea), who led the Irish defense establishment since 2004, on Thursday, February 18, voluntarily resigned. It is reported by AFP.
The Minister’s decision influenced by scandal after he was falsely accused a member of the council Kvinlivana Maurice (Maurice Quinlivan) in the organization of a brothel. As explained BBC News, in 2009, in a conversation with a certain journalist O’Dea made the following incautious remark: “I would like to ask Mr. Kvinlivana, the brothel was still open?”.
Statement O’Dea, is not supported by any facts, due to fierce criticism of the minister. Subsequently O’Dea himself has repeatedly said that no accusations Kvinlivana in illegal activities and under oath denied his words. Later, however, the media have found proof of the charges O’Dea to the policy, giving to the public audio recording of his conversation with the journalist.
O’Dea, however, insisted that the information that Kvinlivan was involved in the work of the brothel, he gave a kind of police officer. Later, the Minister admitted his mistake and apologized for his misdeed. According to him, he simply forgot his words, but when he thought, I realized that was wrong. He also paid insulted Kvinlivanu “decent” compensation that is not disclosed.
Commenting on his decision to resign O’Dea said that the scandal has attracted too much attention and could adversely affect the work of the departments under its control. In this regard, he decided to release a ministerial seat.
