Variety closes the free access via the Internet

Newspaper “Variety” on Thursday began a new life – providing its content, paid subscriptions, while hoping that advertisers will not leave, despite a decline in network audiences.

“Variety” plans to gradually close the access requesting user name and password from one of ten visitors.

Two months later, the newspaper plans to close free access.

The newspaper, which has existed for 104 years, expects to lose about 2.5 million readers monthly. However, it remains 25 thousand subscribers a daily print edition and 30 thousand subscribers weekly print edition.
