Every 133rd American met in 2009 in prison

According to official Bureau of Justice Statistics under the Ministry of Justice, in the past year the number of prisoners in U.S. jails has exceeded the figure of 2.3 million people.

As stated in the report, on 31 December 2009 remained in prison every 133rd resident of the country.

Moreover, also notes that in the period 2000 to 2008 the number of “population” in prisons grew by an average of 1.8% per year.
