Vatican criticizes the decision taken in Switzerland to ban minarets
A number of states and international organizations have condemned the referendum in Switzerland, which was approved by the ban on the construction of minarets.
The Vatican said that the decision of the Swiss electorate creates additional problems in the coexistence of different religions and cultures.
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner called the decision “a manifestation of intolerance” and expressed hope for its abolition. At the same time, representatives of several right-wing parties in Europe welcomed the outcome of the referendum.
The Swiss government objected to the ban, arguing that it violates the rights of the Muslim population and damage the international image of the country.
