Prime-minister of Poland has suggested to limit powers of the president
The prime minister of Poland Donald Tusk has suggested to limit powers of the president of republic, to cancel direct presidential elections and to pass to system at which the head of the state is chosen with members of both chambers of parliament. As informs the Polish edition Dziennik, corresponding amendments to constitution Тusk has suggested to accept to autumn of next year.
In Tusk’sopinion , similar changes in the future will allow to avoid conflicts between presidents and prime-ministers. Besides the head of the government has called to reduce number of members of the bottom and top chambers of parliament – the Diet and the Senate. Tusk also has suggested to change and system of their election: deputies, in its opinion, it is necessary to select on the mixed system, and members of the Senate – on one-mandatory districts.
Now the number of deputies of the Diet makes 460, all of them are selected on proportional system in multimandatory districts. 100 members of the Senate are selected on majority system in multimandatory districts.
Poland is parliamentary republic within the limits of which to the president the status role is allocated. In October, 2008 Tusk has addressed in the Constitutional court with the request to specify powers of the president in foreign policy. The reason began to transfer refusal of president Lekha Kachinski to prime-minister of power to represent the country at the summit of EU. As a result on a meeting of the European leaders have arrived both prime-minister, and the president.
Following presidential elections should take place in Poland in 2010.
