Iran is ready to reduce cooperation with the IAEA in response to a critical resolution
Iran’s parliament suggested the government today, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to develop and submit a plan to reduce the level of cooperation with the IAEA.
“Because of the behavior of world powers, our government must submit its plan for the decline in the level of cooperation with the agency,” – said in an address delivered in Parliament. The appeal circulated today, local radio and television, ITAR-TASS.
The Iranian Majlis has the right to oblige the government to change the level of cooperation with the IAEA, as it was once, in 2006. Then the MPs were very indignant at the Iranian nuclear issue from the IAEA headquarters in Vienna at the UN Security Council.
The demarche Iranian parliamentarians followed two days later after the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution that contains a condemnation of Tehran for the construction of uranium enrichment plant near the city of Qom, and the requirement to immediately turn this project.
Permanent Representative of Iran to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltani criticized the resolution. “There was a historical mistake, repeat the mistakes of the past. The adoption of this resolution entails certain consequences,” – Soltani said in an interview with TV Russia Today.
“The first thing – trouble for the IAEA itself, because the resolution was made, States parties take diametrically opposed positions creates a dangerous situation for the future of the agency. Secondly, the resolution totally destroys constructive, supportive environment prevailing in the IAEA, it was particularly evident in recent months when the CEO has visited Iran, and we have taken some important steps that exceed our mutual obligations “, – he said.
“We believe that the present hidden intentions, Iran was just a pretext, and the main goal – the restructuring of the international agencies are trying to make it a political rather than technical organization. And so we have been constantly warn that Iran – this is just an excuse to carry concealed intentions. They want to do something more. That is why the Western media IAEA oversight body called the UN, although this issue has nothing to do with the UN and New York “, – stressed Soltani
