The Rubik’s cube was invented by a Hungarian professor by the name of Erno Rubik (hence the name Rubik’s cube). If you do not already know, the Rubik’s cube is one of the best selling toys to date ever. Prof Rubik also recently introduced another invention of his, known as the Rubik 360. But we shall concentrate on the Rubik’s cube for now, though the Rubik 360 is another cheap kids toy!

The Rubik’s cube is basically a special cube with six faces, each with a different colour. On each face of the cube, the square is further sub-divided into nine smaller squares. Hence, structurally the Rubik’s cube consists of nine times six which is fifty-four portions. If you twist and turn the Rubik’s cube, you would realize that the colours mix and match and end up all over the place. Too bad I cannot include a picture here but I am sure most of you would know what a Rubik’s cube is. Anyways, when you twist and turn and mix the colours up, the objective of this toy would be to unravel what you have done and get the colours back where they are supposed to be. For example, each face of the cube should end up with only one colour.

If your approach to solving this ingenious toy is by trial and error, you would never get to the end point. There is actually a set of rules that you have to follow to get the colours back on the proper track one by one, before you slide the last bit into the right place. Hence, this toy can be a lot of fun when you are first racking your brains and figuring out how to get it sorted out. But I can tell you that resistance is futile!
